11 January 2022

On January 10, 2022, general shareholder meeting of Ural Turbine Works JSC has appointed Dmitrii Izotin, who had previously served as Director of Sales, Director General of the company. He succeeded Igor Sorochan, who headed the company for ten years.

This decision was made by general shareholder meeting at the request of Igor Sorochan, who will continue to work at the plant as Deputy General Director for Strategic Development, focusing on project activities.

The Board of Directors acknowledged Mr. Sorochan’s great personal contribution to the company’s development. Over the past decade, the Ural Turbine Works has extensively modernized its production facilities, mastered the production of dozens of new turbine designs, including those for nuclear icebreakers and waste heat treatment plants, and expanded its delivery geographies. Under the leadership of Igor Sorochan, the plant significantly modernized the installed fleet of steam turbines at power plants in Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. His work was highly appreciated. Mr. Sorochan was awarded the title of Honored Mechanical Engineer of the Russian Federation. In total, over the last ten years UTW JSC has produced about 100 steam and gas turbines with a total capacity of 5.6 GW. This compares to the capacity of ten power plants, such as the Novo-Sverdlovskaya CHP, or half of the total capacity of the Sverdlovsk region’s power industry. I. Sorochan will work in the commercial center of UTW JSC in St. Petersburg.

Mikhail Lifshits, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ural Turbine Works JSC, expressed his gratitude to Igor Pavlovich, “Initially, in 2010, we agreed on his ‘three-year business trip’ to Yekaterinburg. But the range of the tasks and the potential of the Urals engineering school kept Mr. Sorochan busy all the time, and on his own initiative he devoted an entire decade to our plant. He managed to practically revive the company, returning it to the leading position in the country’s power engineering industry”.

Dmitrii Izotin was born in 1984 in the settlement of Komsomolsky, Tyumen Region (now the city of Yugorsk). Graduated from the Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin majoring in “Heat Power Engineering. Steam Turbine, Gas Turbine Plants, and Engines”. Having joined the Ural Turbine Works in 2009 as a manager in the sales department of power equipment services, in 2013 he moved to the position of Deputy Sales Director and in 2017 became Sales Director. In 2021, he was awarded the title of the Honored Power Engineer of Mongolia.

Mikhail Lifshits noted, “The company has always been young, and we believe that the appointment of the youngest manager in the industry is a strengthening of traditions and a sign that the people, who were nurtured at the plant, are capable of securing its future. We set serious tasks before the plant’s team under the leadership of Dmitrii Izotin: diversification of the order portfolio, creation of new products, and development of new markets. The main thing is to bring in something new, which is dictated by the current technological mode, and become the flagship of the digital transformation of the entire industry”.
